VFX Statement
Dabbling in Photoshop adjacent softwares as a kid, Ford began to pick up on discrepancies between still art and film early on. Particularly how one can absorb all the detail of a still image at their own leisure, while film has a locked timing— and how films tend to have a knack for portraying realism as opposed to the abstract.
Motivated by mixed media artists Evgenii Shelkovoi, Aaron Fahy, and AWGE, Ford began to explore different ways of delivering narrative information that went beyond traditional realism.
Experimenting with Animation and digital Mixed Media emulation, and pulling inspiration from the colors and composition of Basquiat, Shusei Nagaoka, and Hasui Kawase, Ford attempts to bridge the gap between cinematograpghy and the canvas, to try and create new methods of visual storytelling.
Ford’s motion design dream is to be able to transfer the detail of a piece of art as detailed as Basquiat’s, and apply it to the screen.
